See the Walpole-Nornalup National Park, Western Australia's first national park to be declared Wilderness and the Denmark hamlets of Nornalup, Peaceful Bay and Bow Bridge.
Day One Tour - Travel east on South Coast Highway to Walpole town centre where the Visitor Centre is worth a visit. Travel east on Hilltop Road deep into the forest to the magnificent Frankland River, Circular Pool, Fernhook Falls. Walk the trail around Mount Frankland or climb to its peak for a breathtaking view of the landscape. Picnickers and campers facilities; shelter, toilet, water and gas barbecue are available. Travel the North Walpole Road - take the 500m return walk through the Swarbrick Forest. This old growth karri was focal point for those who campaigned to preserve these forests for future generations. Pass the 'Door of Perception', through the reflective 'Wilderness Wall of Perceptions', encounter the sculpture exhibits. Take Bridge Road to Valley Of The Giants Road and visit The Tree Top Walk, suspended 38 metres above the forest floor surrounded by 20,000 hectares of towering giant trees. Explore the Ancient Empire boardwalk trail through the hollow trunks of the amazing Tingle Trees. Rangers at the Interpretive Centre are on hand to explain the evolution of the forests. Picnic facilities, toilet and refreshments are available.
Day Two Tour - Nestled on the Frankland River is the pioneer settlement of Nornalup. Take a break, hire a canoe or visit the old post office, now an excellent restaurant. Facilities are available for picnickers. Toilets and boat ramp are available. Turn at Station Road and continue east, via Ficifolia Road. Look out for the Ficifolia tree display of summer colour from soft pink to dark red. Travel on to Peaceful Bay, a picturesque holiday and fishing destination on the Southern Ocean. Facilities are available for picnickers and campers, gas barbecue, bathing hut, toilets, fuel and refreshments. On the way drop into Conspicuous Cliffs and witness the antics of whales from observation platforms. Take the Peaceful Bay Road back to the quaint country Bow Bridge Roadhouse on the pristine Bow River for refreshment and fuel. Cooked fresh marron is available at the Bow all year round. Travel east of Bow Bridge for half an hour to Denmark, where the Visitor Centre is worth a visit.
